Because deep vein thrombosis (DVT) affects up to two million people in the United States each year, Orthopedic Resources is committed to providing physicians with the equipment they need to increase patient safety and produce better outcomes. We enjoy strong relationships with DME providers; however, we will work with the manufacturer you choose. These are our primary equipment providers:

Kendall Covidien:

The SCD EXPRESS™ Compression System, for the prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE), consists of the SCD EXPRESS™ controller, non-disposable tubing and single patient use leg garments. The compression sleeve contains three bladders to deliver circumferential, sequential and gradient compression to ensure clearance of the deep veins without the risk of distal blood trapping.

Triple Play:

The Triple Play VT® from Compression Solutions is designed to provide DVT prophylaxis with the use of its lightweight, portable, easy-to-operate system. The Triple Play helps prevent deep vein thrombosis from surgery through recovery, when a patient is at highest risk for developing blood clots, and also provides relief from swelling and post-op pain for up to 17 hours without recharging.

VenaFlow:

The Aircast VenaFlow System functions as a prophylaxis for deep vein thrombosis by using an effective combination of graduated sequential compression and rapid impulse inflation. This unique collaboration of technology increases venous velocity while enhancing fibrinolysis, thus assisting in the prevention of thrombus formation.

VascuTherm:

The VascuTherm therapy system is designed to provide fluid heating, cooling and compression therapy for Orthopedic Resources patients. VascuTherm can be used to help decrease the risk of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), reduce swelling associated with soft tissue injuries such as burns, post-operative edema and ligament sprains, and localized thermal therapy (hot or cold) for post-traumatic, post-surgical medical and/or surgical conditions. VascuTherm can also reduce the need for anticoagulant (blood thinning) medications.

Physicians recommend RICE therapy (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for their post-surgical and sports injury patients. The cold and compression products we use take care of the mechanical end of that therapy—the rest and elevation are up to the patient. We work with a number of vendors:

Triple Play:

The Ca5 Triple Play VT® from Compression Solutions is designed to provide cold and compression therapy with the use of its lightweight, portable, easy-to-operate system that provides relief from swelling and post-operative pain for up to 17 hours without recharging. The malleable gel wraps can be used directly from the freezer without the risk of tissue damage due to overexposure to cold. Triple Play is also used to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Hot and cold therapy is important to patient recovery—the patient's physician will make a recommendation specific to their injury or post-operative need. Orthopedic Resources will work with you and your preferred manufacturer, but has a long-standing relationship with these vendors:

DeRoyal:

Patients use hot/cold therapy in accordance with their physician's recommendations. Primary use of cold therapy is for pain and soft tissue swelling resulting from surgery or trauma. Hot therapy is intended for relieving vaso-constriction at the treatment site.

CPM (continuous passive motion) therapy is a postoperative treatment method designed to aid recovery after joint surgery. In most patients, after extensive joint surgery, attempts at joint motion cause pain and, as a result, the patient fails to move the joint. This allows the tissue around the joint to become stiff and for scar tissue to form resulting in a joint which has limited range of motion and often may take months of physical therapy to recover that motion.

Passive range of motion means that the joint is moved without the patient's muscles being used. Continuous Passive Motion devices are machines that have been developed for patients to use after surgery.

Kinetic:

The Kinetec CPM Machines feature a natural, anatomical motion that increases patient compliance and decreases joint stress. The post-op passive range of motion helps prevent joint stiffness, edema, soft tissue contractures and muscle atrophy. Motions for the Kinetec Centura CPM machine for shoulders include: flexion and extension from 0 to 180 degrees; abduction and adduction from 30 degrees adduction to 160 degrees abduction; internal and external rotation from 60 degrees internal rotation to 90 degrees of external rotation. Horizontal abduction and adduction is available as an option.

Motions for the Kinetec Spectra CPM machine for knees include: minus 10 degrees extension to 120 degrees of knee flexion; pause in extension and flexion; warm-up mode; manual mode; patient compliance meter; anatomically correct motion; force control to limit the amount of force the CPM applies; and speed control.

Crutches/Walkers:

Crutches and wheeled walkers aid in mobility for those that are impaired or have had an injury or surgery that limits walking. This equipment provides aids in discomfort, reduces recovery time and assists walking while increasing balance and stability.

Crutches provide assistance with ambulation during the initial recovery process. Allowing patients to be upright and mobile aids circulation and assists kidney and lung function.

Wheeled walkers provide a comfortable alternative to crutches and are ideal for below the knee injuries. The wheels move forward naturally with the user providing support and allowing the user to feel confident in their movements.
